UFC on ESPN+ 16 poster with Cerrone’s head so powerful, it makes ‘Cowboy’ two words

The UFC is back in Canada next month, and potential barnburner of a lightweight scrap tops the bill.

UFC on ESPN+ 16 takes place Sept. 14 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. The card streams on ESPN+.

In the main event, Donald Cerrone (36-12 MMA, 23-9 UFC) takes on Justin Gaethje (20-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC). Cerrone is the UFC’s all-time leader in post-fight bonus awards with 18. He has five in his past four fights, including a $100,000 double bonus night. Gaethje, a former WSOF champion, has six bonuses in his first five fights since coming to the UFC, including a double dip of his own.

Those fighters are front and center on the poster for UFC on ESPN+ 16, which recently was released by the promotion.

The poster has a interesting look to it. Cerrone is up top in his trademark cowboy hat – and apparently his head is so powerful that it has split the word “cowboy” into two words: “COW” and “BOY.”

Gaethje appears on the poster grinning below, anchoring a one sheet that is awash in Miami Dolphins colors against neon-style type.

Cerrone, No. 4 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie MMA lightweight rankings, will be the first fighter to make four octagon appearances this year. The 36-year-old is the UFC’s all-time wins leader, and after stating his intentions for 155-pound gold with wins over Alexander Hernandez and Al Iaquinta, Cerrone suffered a setback against Tony Ferguson at UFC 238 in June.

Now he will try to rebound against No. 6 Gaethje. He has had mixed results in the UFC, but most recently had a first-round knockout of Edson Barboza at UFC on ESPN 2 in March.
