Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine has been released from the UFC following six fights with the promotion dating back to 2014.

Multiple sources confirmed the news when speaking to MMA Fighting with the release actually happening last week.

Saffiedine joined the UFC roster with a lot of hype surrounding him after he dismantled Nate Marquardt to become Strikeforce champion in 2013.

While he earned a win in a “Fight of the Night” effort in his UFC debut against Hyun Gyu Lim, Saffeidine was never able to find the same kind of success inside the Octagon as he did in Strikeforce.

Saffiedine suffered a TKO loss to Rory MacDonald before bouncing back with a win against Jake Ellenberger more than a year later.

His UFC career closed on three straight losses to Rick Story, Dong Hyun Kim and Rafael dos Anjos with several stretches of inactivity in between fights as Saffiedine dealt with various injuries that kept him out of regular competition.

Saffiedine’s UFC career ends with a 2-4 record overall.
