Dana White’s Contender Series Brazil results: Season 1, Week 2 (spoilers)

Dana White Contender Series had its first special season taped earlier this month in Las Vegas, and the second previously recorded fights aired Friday night in Brazil.

(Contender Series Brazil will be aired on UFC Fight Pass on a later date, so this post contains spoilers.)

Ten Brazilian talents entered the Octagon in Nevada to battle for exclusive contracts with the UFC, and two of the winners already haves date and opponents set for their UFC debut.

Johnny Walker (14-3) met former UFC light heavyweight Luis Henrique (14-5), and came close to finishing the fight with a rear-naked choke in the second round but the victory came via unanimous decision after 15 minutes.

Walker now slated to face Khalil Rountree at the UFC Buenos Aires card on Nov. 17, sources told MMA Fighting following a report by ESPN.

Marina Rodriguez (10-0) kept her MMA record perfect as she met Rizin veteran Maria Oliveira (10-4) in a strawweight bout. Rodriguez ran through Oliveira with elbows, knees and punches, forcing her opponent to quit in the opening round.

“I thought she would be able to handle more so I could show more of what I trained, but it was cool,” Rodriguez said after the win. “I trained to be more aggressive, and that’s the result.”

UFC president Dana White left his table to tell a few words to Rodriguez.

”That was awesome,” White said. “Wow. Impressive.”

Rodriguez is now set to make her promotional debut at the UFC Sao Paulo card on Sept. 22, taking on Randa Markos, sources said after a report by FloCombat.

In the women’s flyweight division Taila Santos improved to 15-0 as a professional fighter with an unanimous decision victory over Estefani Almeida (7-2). The Astra Fight Team talent, who finished 12 of 15 opponents in her career, was announced as the newest addition to UFC’s 125-pound division after snapping Almeida’s five-fight winning streak.

TUF Brazil 3 finalist Marcio Alexandre Jr. (17-4) and fellow UFC veteran Leonardo Silva (12-7) met in a middleweight contest, and “Lyoto” needed less than two minutes to win with a guillotine choke. However, Alexandre Jr. — who defeated middleweight sensation Paulo Costa via split decision during the UFC reality show in 2014, wasn’t offered a new contract with the company.

In the second middleweight bout of the night, Andre Muniz defeated his friend Bruno Assis via decision after a back and forth fight, but also came up short in his attempt to sign with the UFC.
