A bantamweight showdown between Aljamain Sterling and Cory Sandhagen is in the works for the upcoming UFC 250 card that’s currently scheduled to take place on June 6.

Multiple sources confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Thursday after Sterling posted a photo saying that he had signed his contract for a fight at UFC 250.

The fight between Sterling and Sandhagen was originally targeted for a UFC Fight Night card in San Diego in May but that event was eventually scrapped due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Now the bantamweights are preparing to meet in June instead with Sterling and Sandhagen jockeying for position to hopefully compete for the 135-pound title after current champion Henry Cejudo announced his retirement at UFC 249.

Sterling enters the matchup on a four-fight win streak with strong performances against Pedro Munhoz and Jimmie Rivera in his past two appearances.

Meanwhile, Sandhagen is currently undefeated in his career with the UFC with five straight wins including victories over Raphael Assuncao and John Lineker.

A women’s featherweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Felicia Spencer is currently expected to headline the UFC 250 card.
